One of the most iconic and eagerly awaited New Year celebrations worldwide is the NYC ball drop, watched live by approximately 1 million spectators every year. Isn’t it ironic, though, that we welcome the start of a new year by literally dropping the ball?

In Greek mythology, the Titan Atlas was condemned to carry the heavens on his shoulders for eternity. Every artistic depiction shows him in agony, bearing the celestial sphere. In a way, aren’t we all like Atlas, carrying our own loads on our shoulders? There are moments when we wish we could throw that ball of burdens aside and finally set ourselves free. There are times when juggling countless responsibilities feels impossible—when we’re convinced we lack the skill, the stamina, and the motivation to keep all those balls in the air. And yes, there are moments when it seems inevitable that some balls will fall.

As we step into this new year, may your burdens ease, and may you find the strength to shoulder them with grace. May this year bring you resilience to keep juggling when life demands it and the wisdom to let go when it doesn’t.
Let them drop the ball in Times Square. But for you? Let’s hope and pray that no matter what life throws your way, you never drop the ball that matters most.
And then, on Another Note: The Great Expectations

Teachers are often reminded of one golden rule: always have positive expectations.
Why?
Because negative expectations often turn into self-fulfilling prophecies. So, this year, I’m choosing positivity – for myself, for others, and for everything around me. Here’s a list of my great expectations for the new year.
I’ll begin with my homeland – Pakistan. We, as a nation, have been promised “change” so many times that we’ve probably lost count. Let’s hope this year, the long-promised “change” finally arrives—but in a way that doesn’t make us wish for “unchanged”. Here’s to 2024 being the rock bottom we needed to push off from—and may 2025 be the start of an upward climb.

While I’m at it, let’s extend those hopes to the country we now call home. May the newly minted president keep his campaign promises and deliver the vision we heard during those endless rallies, all while providing the much-needed unintentional funny moments that leave both his supporters and critics scratching their heads.

On a more global note, let’s sincerely hope for peace, justice, and dignity for the poor Palestinians who endured a nightmare last year. May they find the solace they deserve.

For you, dear readers, as you bid farewell to the year gone by, I hope you also wave goodbye to all the negativity, painful memories, and bad habits that overstayed their welcome in 2024. Let’s leave those behind like an expired Netflix subscription.
Wouldn’t it be great if this new year came with a divine reset button—one that magically resets our sin counters, calorie counters, and bank overdrafts to zero? Sadly, that’s not how it works. So instead, let’s aim not to over-indulge in anything next year. Here’s hoping our deeds in 2025 allow us to respect ourselves in 2026.

But let’s be honest, why bother changing at all? Aren’t we amazing just the way we are? Besides, who has the time for a whole new version of ourselves when the old one is perfectly functional, with only a few bugs here and there.
Happy New Year. So much for “new this” and “new that.” Now let’s get back to being our last-year selves, but with slightly better excuses. Here’s to another year of overhyped resolutions, failed gym commitments, and unkept promises to eat healthy… until February. May our Wi-Fi stay strong, our coffees stay hot, and our bosses stay distracted. Cheers to twelve months of pretending we know what we are doing.

Happy New Year and best wishes to all my readers from me and our amazing blogging team!
